Den senaste i raden var en Supertone Artist fr\u00e5n 1929, en av de finare modellerna, med det ovanliga &#8221;Aero-bridge&#8221; eller flygplansstallet och extra mycket bling i form av abalone p\u00e4rlemorinl\u00e4ggningar. Botten och sida i Koa, locket i t\u00e4t gran (&#8221;red spruce&#8221;). This guitar is of the special handkraft construction, and is fitted with the aero bridge (patent pending) to insure excellent tone quality.\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_15.jpg\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_16.jpg\" width=\"195\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Man brukar \u00e4ven kalla stallet (<a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/us1764679.pdf\">patent<\/a>) f\u00f6r ett &#8221;Lindbergh&#8221; stall. Charles Lindbergh var en sensation n\u00e4r han fl\u00f6g den f\u00f6rsta soloflygningen fr\u00e5n USA till Frankrike den 21:a maj 1927. Gitarrer och andra instrument (ukkulele, mandolin) tillverkades med de h\u00e4r stallen under \u00e5ren 1927-34 av Harmony. Det intressanta \u00e4r att stallet b\u00f6rjade tillverkas strax innan Lindbergh gjorde sin flygning \u00e4ven om sj\u00e4lva patentet l\u00e4mnades in 1928 och godk\u00e4ndes 1930. De var inte dummare \u00e4n att rida p\u00e5 hypen! Tanken med stallet var annars att undvika att locket deformeras av str\u00e4ngdraget, stallet kompletterades av en speciell ribbning p\u00e5 insidan d\u00e4r &#8221;stj\u00e4rten&#8221; p\u00e5 stallet vilade p\u00e5 krysset i en X-ribbning. I Sears, Roebuck &amp; Co., Spring and Summer Catalog, 1929, sida 733 kan man l\u00e4sa:<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;This invention relates to stringed musical instruments, such as guitars and the like, and its principal object is to improve the tone qualities of instruments of this type, and to remedy certain defects common to such instruments. In the ordinary guitar a narrow bridge is employed which is glued to the top of the instrument, but due to the strain thereon caused by the tension of the strings, the narrow bridge is often caused to tilt on one edge, thereby bending down the bowed top of the instrument between the bridge and the block at the neck, and thereby impairing the tone quality of the instrument. Sometimes the strain is so great that the bridge is torn from the top, or is torn in two. One object of the invention is to provide a bridge for guitars, and the like, which overcomes all of said difficulties and greatly increases the effectiveness of the instrument.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge is made relatively long and wide, thereby providing a gluing face on its underside of considerable area as compared with the gluing faces of bridges now on the market. The saddle receiving portion extends transversely of the instrument and the relatively long portion is preferably in the form of a projection narrower than the saddle receiving portion and extending at right angles thereto. The exact shape of the bridge is immaterial, broadly speaking, but by giving it an ornamental appearance, the attractiveness of the instrument is greatly enhanced.<\/p>\n<p>On account of the great gluing surface of the bridge, it not only is secured more firmly to the top, but because of the long extent thereof, the tendency for the bridge to tilt, when subjected to the tension of the strings, is practically eliminated, and the tendency to flatten out the bowed part of the top between the bridge and block is eliminated. This also has a tendency to improve the tone volume of the instrument. The tension of the strings on the bridge is considerable, as is well known, but by increasing the length of the bridge, lengthwise of the instrument, a greater hold on the top is obtained with the result that the tendency of the bridge to tilt and bend down the bowed top is eliminated. More or less variation of the exact details of construction is possible without departing from the spirit of this invention; I desire, therefore, not to limit myself to the exact form of the construction shown and described&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Den h\u00e4r gitarren hade en ganska typisk ladder bracing, de tv\u00e5 ribborna nedanf\u00f6r ljudh\u00e5let var vinklade till ett liggande V. En stallplatta i gran,\u00a0 s\u00f6nderkexade runt str\u00e4ngpinnh\u00e5len, t\u00e4ckte halva locket n\u00e4stan ut till kanten p\u00e5 ena sidan. Lite lustigt att stallet p\u00e5 den h\u00e4r hade slitits loss av str\u00e4ngdraget, precis en av de saker stallet skulle f\u00f6rhindra! \ud83d\ude42 Det tunna locket, f\u00f6r kraftiga str\u00e4ngar och avsaknaden av matchande ribbning p\u00e5 insidan var s\u00e4kert orsaken till att stallet lossnade.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total l\u00e4ngd:\u00a0 97 cm<\/li>\n<li>Lock (\u00f6vre rundel, midja, nedre rundel): 25 \u2013\u00a0 21 \u2013 35,5 cm<\/li>\n<li>Sida (halskloss, midja, \u00e4ndkloss): 8,5 \u2013 9,7 \u2013 9,7\u00a0 cm<\/li>\n<li>Hals: V-form<\/li>\n<li>Greppbr\u00e4da (\u00f6versadel, 12:e, stall):\u00a0 48 \u2013 57 \u2013 58 mm<\/li>\n<li>Mensur:\u00a0\u00a0 64 cm<\/li>\n<li>Lack: Cellulosa \u00f6verlackad med sprit<\/li>\n<li>Vikt: 1343 g<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ingen etikett eller m\u00e4rkning fanns i gitarren som var i d\u00e5ligt skick. Den nedersta tredjedelen och bindningen av greppbr\u00e4dan saknades. Locket var sprucket, krympt och s\u00f6nder, stallet var n\u00e4stan l\u00f6st och hade dragit med sig en bit av locket under stallet. Stallet var i bra skick. Halsen var l\u00f6s. Botten och sida var hela trots att botten hade krympt en del. St\u00e4mskruvarna var rej\u00e4lt glappa.<\/p>\n<p>Spr\u00e4tte l\u00f6s det som var kvar av greppbr\u00e4dan och en kolfiberstav limmades in. H\u00e5len f\u00f6r st\u00e4mskruvarnas stolpar borrades upp f\u00f6r montering av &#8221;grommets&#8221;, men beh\u00f6vde inte pluggas d\u00e5 avst\u00e5ndet mellan stolparna p\u00e5 moderna st\u00e4mskruvar \u00e4r de som anv\u00e4nts som standard i US sedan sekelskiftet.<\/p>\n<p>Limning av f\u00f6rst\u00e4rkningarna runt ljudh\u00e5len i stallplattan i gran. Kerfingen hade inte bytts ut \u00e4n.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_17.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_18.jpg\" width=\"292\" height=\"218\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Att lossa botten \u00e4r alltid ett problem p\u00e5 gitarrer med finare bindning. P\u00e5 den h\u00e4r hade hudlimmet \u00e5ldrats och det gick n\u00e4stan att f\u00e5 l\u00f6s botten med bindningen kvar utan att s\u00e5ga igenom kerfingen. Bytte till ny kerfing och hade t\u00e4nkt \u00e5teranv\u00e4nda botten plus bindning som den var, men det visade sig att botten krympt och passade inte mot sidorna utan att anv\u00e4nda f\u00f6r mycket v\u00e5ld. Fick bli plan B. Den gamla bindningen offrades och ersattes med en ny. Med valsputsen kunde jag tillverka en vit och en sk\u00f6ldpaddsf\u00e4rgad bindning som matchade originalet i tjocklek. B\u00f6rjade med att limma in en tunn rosewoodlist l\u00e4ngst in ocks\u00e5 eftersom urfr\u00e4sningen p\u00e5 n\u00e5gra st\u00e4llen var 3 mm och bindningen 2 mm bred. En hel del jobb!<\/p>\n<p>B\u00f6rjan av bottenlimningen med ny kerfing monterad, anv\u00e4nder en v\u00e4rmelampa f\u00f6r att vinna tid med hudlimmet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_19.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_19.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Den nya bindningen runt botten fr\u00e4st och limmad p\u00e5 plats, den nya ebenholtsbr\u00e4dan under arbete.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_20.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_21.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alla sprickor och l\u00f6sa bitar i locket pusslades ihop och limmades. Eftersom locket bara \u00e4r ca 2,5 mm tjockt beh\u00f6vdes ett antal laglappar och en st\u00f6rre granpatch att f\u00f6rst\u00e4rka locket med mellan ribba tv\u00e5 och tre nedanf\u00f6r ljudh\u00e5let. P\u00e5 n\u00e5gra st\u00e4llen beh\u00f6vde ocks\u00e5 locket limmas mot sidorna. Botten och sidorna var i bra skick, bara mitts\u00f6mmen p\u00e5 botten beh\u00f6vde limmas ihop. Den fick den vanliga ribbningen med stallplatta i gran och pluggar.<\/p>\n<p>Det andra st\u00f6rre jobbet var att tillverka en ny greppbr\u00e4da av ebenholts. Den fick en svag 20&#8243; radius och alla p\u00e4rlemorinl\u00e4ggningar flyttades \u00f6ver, de tv\u00e5 fyrkanterna vid 12:e bandet nytillverkades. Samma bindning som anv\u00e4ndes i botten limmades p\u00e5 greppbr\u00e4dans kanter. F\u00f6r en g\u00e5ngs skull valde jag vanliga nickelband ist\u00e4llet f\u00f6r m\u00e4ssing, ser b\u00e4ttre ut p\u00e5 den h\u00e4r gitarren.<\/p>\n<p>Med en ny greppbr\u00e4da var det enkelt att v\u00e4lja en mensur som matchade placeringen av stallbenet p\u00e5 stallet. Uppm\u00e4tningen f\u00f6r \u00f6versadelintoneringen var lite kr\u00e5ngligare \u00e4n normalt p\u00e5 grund av stallets konstruktion, men det gick bra. Med 64 cm mensur blev kompensationen vid \u00f6versadel och stall annorlunda \u00e4n jag \u00e4r van (med 62-63 cm mensur). G str\u00e4ngens intonationspunkt kom n\u00e4rmast 1:a bandet, annars \u00e4r det alltid A eller b str\u00e4ngen. Vid stallet hamnade intonationspunkterna n\u00e4stan rakt vilket gjorde att jag kunde g\u00f6ra stallbenet bara ca 3,5 mm tjockt f\u00f6r att n\u00e5 fram till alla intonationspunkter. Har blivit allt b\u00e4ttre p\u00e5 att slipa in reliefen och banden p\u00e5 greppbr\u00e4dan och hitta r\u00e4tt h\u00f6jd p\u00e5 stallbenet, den h\u00e4r blev v\u00e4ldigt bra justerad.<\/p>\n<p>Limningen av halsen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/2020-03-15_03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gammelgura.se\/blogimages\/2020-03-15_GG151\/th_2020-03-15_03.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lacken var spr\u00f6d och l\u00f6s p\u00e5 sina st\u00e4llen, den f\u00e4rgade lacken hade lossnat fl\u00e4ckvis. Anv\u00e4nde kaliumpermanganat och lite bets f\u00f6r att d\u00e4mpa de v\u00e4rsta skadorna innan ett lager spritlack lades p\u00e5 ovanp\u00e5 cellulosalacken. Spritlack f\u00e4ster bra mot cellulosalack och kan spritas bort om man s\u00e5 vill.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e5ste s\u00e4ga att den l\u00e5ter v\u00e4ldigt bra med sina pluggar och segmenteras stallben! \u00c4r tveksam till att stallet \u00e4r bra f\u00f6r ljudkvaliteten, men eftersom locket \u00e4r stort och stallet inte binder ihop mer \u00e4n en ribba inuti kanske det inte blir n\u00e5gon st\u00f6rre f\u00f6r\u00e4ndring till det b\u00e4ttre med ett vanligt stall. Det tunna locket, h\u00f6ga volymen och den lite bredare greppbr\u00e4dan g\u00f6r att den passar bra f\u00f6r fingerspel. Koa tr\u00e4et i botten och sida ger en ocks\u00e5 fyllig och mer basig ton \u00e4n jag \u00e4r van fr\u00e5n l\u00f6nn och bj\u00f6rk. Den st\u00f6rre luftvolymen i gitarren ger lite mer &#8221;inre reverb&#8221; fr\u00e5n l\u00e5dan.
